What should I bring with me when I come for a scheduled office appointment?
In addition to your Medicare and/or your insurance information
- A referral from your General Practitioner or family doctor
- A copy of your previous hearing test
- A list of all medications that you are currently taking
- A list of any known drug allergies and the symptoms you may have from taking these medicines
Are my medical records kept private and confidential?
Your medical file is handled with the utmost respect for your privacy. Our staff is bound by strict confidentiality requirements as a condition of employment regarding your medical records. Ordinarily we will not release the contents of your medical file without your consent.
Do I need a referral to make an appointment?
An order for the hearing test is recommended for Medicare patients. A hearing test is only covered by Medicare when ordered by a physician and prompted by medical need. Private insurances may or may not require a referral. Please contact your insurance carrier with any questions.
How can my family doctor help me to obtain specialized medical care?
Before seeing an audiologist, it is always preferable to talk to your own family doctor, who can discuss your condition with you and give you advice on whether referral to an audiologist is appropriate. If it is, he or she can help you to choose an audiologist. Your family doctor can help the audiologist to care for you better by providing relevant information about your health.
What should I expect during the first visit?
The audiologist will review your history, inspect your ears, and complete the hearing test. The basic hearing test typically takes 30 to 45 minutes to complete. The results will be reviewed with you prior to leaving the office and forwarded to the referring physician.
Does my insurance cover the hearing test and/or hearing aids?
Insurance coverage varies by policy. We would encourage you to contact your insurance carrier to determine if you have coverage for either hearing tests or hearing aids. The contact number can be found on the back of your insurance card.
What brands do you offer?
We service and ReSound, Oticon, Phonak and Starkey hearing aids.
Can other brands be repaired?
We can repair other manufacturer’s hearing aids, however, we do not have the software to reprogram or adjust the hearing aids. We recommend having other brands of hearing aids serviced through offices that have programming software.
What do I need to purchase hearing aids?
In order to purchase a hearing aid you will need a current hearing test. State law requires the hearing test to be completed within the past 6 months. Once the hearing test has been completed you will be scheduled for a hearing aid evaluation appointment. During the 60 minute hearing aid evaluation we will discuss your lifestyle, areas of difficulty, available sizes and technology. Once the aids are ordered it will take approximately 2 weeks to obtain your new hearing aids.
Can I make an appointment to have my hearing aid checked if I purchased it elsewhere?
We would be happy to look at your hearing aid/s. We service the following brands of hearing aids: Oticon, Phonak, Siemens/Signia, ReSound and Starkey.
How long do hearing aids last?
The average life expectancy of hearing aids is 5 years.
Why is my hearing aid whistling or buzzing?
Whistling is better known as feedback. Feedback occurs for a number of reasons which include: ear wax, poorly fitting device, or a hole in the hearing aid. If your hearing aid suddenly starts to whistle please schedule an appointment for a hearing aid check and we can help you determine the cause of this problem.

Will there be a co-pay?
Co-pays are dependent on your specific insurance plan. If you are responsible for a co-pay it will be collected at the time of your visit.
Will I be required to bring my insurance card?
A copy of your insurance card/s will be taken at the time of the visit. Please bring these documents with you.
Will my services be covered by my insurance?
Benefits and coverage for services needs to be verified through your insurance carrier. You are responsible for contacting your insurance provider or consulting your insurance manual to determine if services are covered under your plan.
